Online Harassment: The pervasive or severe targeting of an individual or group online through harmful behavior, including but not limited to trolling, threats, cyberstalking, doxing, character assassinations, cyberbullying, and other forms of harassment.
Policy Framework:
1. Compliance with Existing Laws: This policy is aligned with existing laws in India, including but not limited to the Indian Penal Code, 1980, Information Technology Act, 2000, Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, and The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013.
2. Prohibited Conduct: Any form of sexual harassment, online harassment, or related offenses as defined by Indian laws is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, trolling, threats, cyberstalking, doxing, character assassinations, cyberbullying, DoS attacks, unsolicited pornography, revenge porn, hate speech, and online impersonation.
3. Reporting Mechanisms: Victims or witnesses of sexual harassment on social media platforms/community are encouraged to promptly report incidents to the respective social media platforms and communities. Reporting mechanisms should be easily accessible, confidential, and user-friendly.
4. Remedial Actions: At Social Media websites, users can report inappropriate content and behavior to the grievance support teams of the respective social media platforms. The platforms should take prompt action, including content removal, suspension, or banning of offenders.
5. Confidentiality: Reports and investigations related to sexual harassment should be treated with utmost confidentiality. Victim identity should be protected, and information should only be shared with authorized personnel involved in the resolution process.
